Chat Room Rules and Tools
EnviroReporter.com is pleased to provide a chat room for concerned individuals to share information with each other in real-time. Please use the Off Topic Chat room or private messages if you and another chatter want to chat extensively about something that is off topic. If you want to ignore a user (not see their personal or public messages), you can do so by right clicking on their name in the user list to the right and selecting “ignore”. Since moderators can’t be on the chat at all times we ask that chatters to notify us of any bad behavior immediately via e-mail at (contact @ enviroreporter.com). Here are 3 simple ground rules:
1. Be respectful of each, and of us – no personal attacks
2. Be respectful of all peoples – no racism, sexism, or homophobia
3. Be respectful of the group conscience. It’s ok to go off-topic at times but keep in mind that others are primarily interested in what is happening in Japan and how it affects themselves and others. So, please return to that topic in a timely manner or at other chatters’ request. Or, use private messages or the chat room for off topic chat.
NOTE: The ability to copy and paste links is malfunctioning now – it’s a Java issue that can only be solved by going back to an earlier version of Java. However there is a work-around which is to use a “drag and drop” technique. Open another window (not tab) and find the site that you want to provide a link to, highlight the URL (web address), and drag it into the chat message bar, click send. For this to work, both the window of the website and the window that you have the chat in must be minimized so you can see both windows. For most browsers that means clicking the yellow dot in the upper left corner, then drag the windows to where you can see both. Hopefully the Java issue will be fixed soon.
This chat program has several fun and useful tools. You can customize your experience with the tool bar at the bottom of the chat window, including:
- Change font color, style and size (via the little magnifying glasses.)
- You can clear the display, choose to show the datestamp on chat entries, use emoticons and audiocons, and if you prefer not to have audio, you can turn if off by clicking the little speaker symbol.
- Use the float and dock function to bring up the chat in a separate window, drag it to where you want on your monitor, and resize it.
- If you want to send a user a private message, you can do so by right clicking on their name in the user list to the right.
- If you want to ignore a user (not see their personal or public messages), you can do so by right clicking on their name in the user list to the right.
- You can also adjust most of these settings through the little gear icon with the drop down arrow.
- Finally, the question mark icon will take you to a page that explains these functions in more detail.
