The 858-acre “Group 1B is located in the east-central portion of the SSFL and lies in Area I and the eastern portion of the southern undeveloped land area,” says a Boeing report [no longer online at original Boeing web address]. “The Group 1B area is bounded to the north and west by Groups 2, 3 and 4, and to the east by Group 1A. Group 1B includes 6 RFI sites including one engine test stand, two research and testing laboratories, two surface water ponds, and one open-burn/open detonation facility.”

“The principal Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) include: the Bowl Test Stand (Bowl), Component Test Lab III (CTL-III), Component Test Lab V (CTL-V), the Perimeter Pond, R-1 Pond, Area I Burn Pit (AIBP), and the Thermal Treatment Facility (TTF),” according to the Boeing report.

The “Primary Chemical Groups Identified, To Date” identified in the Group 1B area are “volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), 1,4-dioxane, formaldehyde, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), metals, perchlorate, and dioxins.”
