Nearly 100 of America's Military Veterans staged a spirited rally at the corner of Wilshire and San Vicente in Brentwood on
Sunday, March 9 to protest what they see as a blatant land grab by affluent and influential Brentwood community members.
The gathering, which saw Vets coming from around the country to attend it, was covered in the next day's edition of the Los
Angeles Daily News and was covered live by The Willy Drake Show on the Internet.
The protest was organized by Veterans Francisco Juarez and Robert Rosebrock and included pamphleteering, singing of
patriotic songs, and fiery speeches. The Vets were greeted by honking horns of passersby and was held on a sunny
afternoon on the edge of the West Los Angeles campus of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Vets handed out copies of the "Declaration of Enforcement" which demands that the Land Grant Deed of 1888 be
enforced meaning that the 16 acres that the VA hopes to carve out of the 388-acre campus for a park be stopped. Rosebrock
subsequently wrote two articles for the April 2008 Greater West Los Angeles Business Monthly regarding this issue and other
issues in relation to what Veterans see as abuse of the use of this extremely valuable land. These issues will be covered in
our upcoming expose "Schooled for Scandal."
